Men’s Section

There was a large turnout of 92 for the men’s Sunday competition which was an Individual Stableford.   All top scores over the three divisions were close and in the late thirties apart from Doug Miners of Division 3 who broke the mould and the forty barrier impressively with a score of 43 points.  Ed Cary topped Division 1 with 39 points and Steve Cleal with 38 (After Count-back) lead Division 2.

RESULTS:-

Division one.  1st. Ed Carey (8) 39 points.  2nd. (acb) Gary Edwardes (9) 37.

3rd. (acb) Gavin Gay (8) 37.   

Division two.  1st. (acb) Steve Cleal (14) 38.  2nd. (acb) Don McAllister (18) 38.

3rd. (acb) Ian Thacker (15) 37.

Division three.  1st. Doug Miners (26) 43.  2nd. Steve Edgar (21) 39.

3rd. John Burwood (19) 38.

Miners had his handicap cut by 3 shots, Cary and Edgar by one.

 

Veteran’s Section

The veteran’s Thursday competition was a Three-man Texas Scramble (1/10th. of combined handicap)  Twenty-one teams took part on a dull, damp morning with a slight breeze and 11 of those teams came in with a sub 70 net score.  Alan Harvey, Ian Perry and Ian Campbell made up the winning team with a net score of 66.4.

 

RESULTS:-

1st. Alan Harvey(17), Ian Perry(21) & Ian Campbell(28) - 66.4.

2nd. Dave Boggis(18), Roger Pollock(19) & Max Williams(27) - 67.6.

3rd. Nick Franks(11), Derek Griggs(22) & Tony Frost(28) - 67.9.      

 

Ladies Section

With the ladies field having a choice between 18 hole and a 9 hole competitions during January and February it gives an opportunity to try out new formats and ideas.  This Tuesday saw the 18 hole players trying their hand at a Medford – the first 9 holes were played as a medal and the last 9 played as a stableford with the final score calculated by taking the nett score from the front 9 and deducting the stableford points from the back nine.  Winner of the event was Margaret Thompson with 19 points which also gave her a well deserved handicap cut to 33.  Runner up on countback was Di Loving.The nine hole mulligan stableford gave an opportunity to retake one errant drive again and Paula Cave scored well to come home with 21 points closely followed by her partner Val Cameron with 19
